Description: Mike's report:
Yes, it was my Jeep with the fuel pump problem. When I slid back down off the first obstacle after a failed attempt, it hit a rock so hard that I dented the stock skid and broke the fuel pump assembly inside the plastic tank. I have no idea how the tank survived. After spending 2 hours in Leadville making phone calls to every auto parts store from Silverthorne to Salida, I decided it wasn't worth trying to get parts shipped to the dealer in Salida, driving down there, picking up the part, driving back to the campsite, spending another couple hours installing it, and then trying to do the trail Saturday afternoon. The rigs were pouring in Friday night as we were leaving for home with my Jeep and its fuel tank strapped to the trailer. I put the new pump assembly in on Sunday and mounted the tank with a new heavy duty Teraflex skid plate.

Jim's report: FRIDAY...Let's see...one 2006 Jeep Wrangler 'fuel pump module'...busted after taking a direct hit on the gas tank skid plate and pushing upward into the tank...breaking the large plastic unit that holds the pump...etc. Happened at first real obstacle on trail...Towed back to camp...dealer only part...end of wheeling trip.
SATURDAY...One 68 corvette disc brake master cylinder...installed on my 47 Willys. Rendering NO brakes approaching Frenchman's Creek on the downhill return...almost taking out Russ' Suzuki. Compound low thru Frenchman's (gotta love 107:1) and the rest of the way back to camp, winch cable attached to back of Willys on some sections...just in case. Had a blast...great time and great trail

Russ's version:
Jim and his family, and Dave and myself, made it to Holy Cross city in record time on Saturday, where we had an early lunch about 11:00am. I made it through French Creek unassisted, thanks to Dave's expert spotting. We did not try Cleveland Rock. Jims brakes gave out on the way back down at the loop above French Creek, which was nice as we were not blocking uphill traffic while we tried about 6 different ways to bleed his brakes. I dropped my camera in the lake while I was fishing on Friday afternoon waiting for Mike and Jim to come back from their fuel pump trip to Leadville, so I did not get my usual 200+ photos on Saturday. My right shoulder is sore from taking full swings with a 5lb hammer on Friday trying to flatten the bump back out of Mike's fuel tank skid plate.
